About Counselling/Therapy
Therapy
is a great tool for supporting a person to realize their potential for
making positive change. My work with clients reflects my belief in our
human potential for growth and each individual’s ability to find their
inner capacity for well-being. I use a Contemporary Reichian approach to therapy that is integrative and relationship-based.
- Integrative:
With this approach, tools from more than one counselling orientation
may be used in order to effectively work with a client’s thoughts,
feelings, and behaviours. My primary orientation is Reichian therapy - the root of somatic therapy - and I also draw on bioenergetics, Gestalt, humanistic, affect and attachment theories.
- Relationship-based:
Counselling occurs in a safe therapeutic relationship in which you can
express yourself, experience being heard and supported, and try out new
ways of relating. Collaboration between the client and counsellor is an
important part of therapy.
- Body-mind: All
of who you are, including your mind (thoughts), body, emotions and
spirituality may be included in the counselling process. Often the role
of one’s physical body in psychological health is overlooked. Because
patterns of emotional dysfunction are “held” in your musculature, somatic therapy that works with your body can greatly support your therapy
process.
